Over Adriana Joëlle

Rinse, Reflect, Repeat

In the exhibition Rinse, Reflect, Repeat, visual artist Adriana Joëlle explores water and the ritual of bathing. Inspired by Japanese bathing culture, Adriana Joëlle considers her personal relationship with water. As a space of rest, transformation, and attention, but also as an element that holds and shapes the body. Visit her installation in ACEC Ondergronds between 5 September and 11 October 2026.

Throughout Adriana Joëlle’s work, texts accompany the installation that do more than just describe water; they attempt to embody it. The shared reflections and rituals invite to not simply think about water, but to experience it. Water appears as memory and as a mirror of sorts, a living body or a presence that is constantly shifting while endlessly returning.

Rinse, Reflect, Repeat

The installation unfolds as an altar, an ode, and a ritual, composed of three parts: Rinse, Reflect, Repeat. Together, they invite visitors to pause and engage with the embodied experience of water and the cyclical gestures of cleansing and reflecting.

About Adriana Joëlle

Adriana Joëlle’s (1998, the Netherlands) practice is characterized by the use of various media: installation, video and sound, archival material, text and performance. Central to her work is the continuously shifting relationship between people, time and memory.

By exploring themes such as longing, loss, rituals, and repetition, she approaches her subjects as echoes from the past. In this way she reconstructs moments that are no longer physically present. By placing these elements in a new spatial and temporal context, she blurs the boundaries between past and present, presence and absence.

Starting from her own lived experiences, but moving towards a collective memory, she strives to create space for reflection. A space or moment in which to reconsider
what was,
what is,
and what may be.
